After Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, it's Google's turn to launch its certification system. You may be wondering who will benefit? Where will it be displayed? We have asked ourselves these questions and we have gathered all the answers for you in this article!
Here is what Google is announcing regarding the availability of its blue tick:
Availability: Available to all Google Workspace customers, plus legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers
Available to users with personal Google Accounts
So it looks like anyone can get Google certified for their Gmail account. But in reality, that's not exactly the case.
In fact, for you to see the blue tick appear next to your sender name, you must have adopted BIMI identification, launched by Google in 2021.
Gmail's BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) system is a feature that allows email senders to have their company logo appear next to their emails in their recipients' inboxes.
This feature was designed by Google to help businesses strengthen their brand and increase customer confidence in their emails.
- Specifically, BIMI operates using a cryptography standard called DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance), which allows email senders to protect their brand and ensure that their emails are authentic.
- Google has introduced this new feature in its Gmail platform to strengthen email security. Users will therefore now be able to see a verification badge as a checkmark icon for senders who have adopted the BIMI standard.
- This new feature helps users distinguish messages from legitimate senders from those from potentially malicious people. It thus reduces the risk of fraud and spam.
By using the BIMI standard, senders can enjoy brand recognition that builds user trust in their messages.
The introduction of this verification badge to Gmail is therefore one more measure to guarantee the security of electronic exchanges and to improve the confidence of users in the sources of messaging (Gmail of course).
